This Kuta peaberry leans warm and comforting in the cup. Cocoa shows up first, rounded out by a spiced red apple note that gives it a little seasonal character. Toffee sweetness ties it together and lingers on the finish. It's a coffee that feels familiar and inviting without losing the clarity you'd expect from a carefully washed lot.

This lot comes from the Kuta Farmer Group, a community of smallholder farmers in the Upper Waghi Valley of Papua New Guinea's Western Highlands, with processing and export overseen by Rilke Limited. Coffee here is grown at 1,600 meters under shade canopy within designated conservation areas, alongside a mix of heirloom and modern varieties. Cherries are fully washed at the Kuta Wet Mill using a careful three-stage process, then sun-dried and conditioned at the dry mill before density sorting, size grading, color sorting, and hand selection. The main harvest runs March through September, with a smaller fly crop in December or January. Beyond the cup, the Kuta group's work includes classroom construction, annual distribution of 25,000–30,000 seedlings, profit-sharing with registered farmers, and environmental practices like pulp composting, vermiculture, and a five-dam water treatment system.
