Bird Friendly Coffee

In 2025, Coffee Break became the first roaster in Alabama to participate in the Smithsonian Bird Friendly coffee program.

As a participating roaster, we source some of our coffees from Bird Friendly certified farms. We hope to grow the percentage of our coffee that is Bird Friendly during 2026.

Our Bird Friendly Program

At the end of the day, we want Coffee Break to have made an impact toward helping people, communities, and the planet.

We joined the Smithsonian Bird Friendly program for coffee roasters with encouragement from friends & customers who also happen to be professionals in wildlife biology and climate science.

We felt this certification was the most rigorous we've seen toward supporting biodiversity and fighting climate change within the industry. It also helps connect participants at all levels of the supply chain to understand and participate in these issues together - with support from experts in climate, agronomy & science.

We've found that joining and expanding our participation in this program is A LOT of work.

It's been a lot more than simply checking a box, or picking Product B instead of Product A. So we're starting small, and hoping to grow our Bird Friendly offering over time.

What is Bird Friendly®?

Smithsonian Bird Friendly certified coffee comes from farms that protect high-quality habitat for birds and wildlife. Rather than clearing forests, Bird Friendly coffee is cultivated underneath and alongside diverse, native trees, preserving vital ecosystems.
