The story

A Swiss Water decaf worth drinking every day

The Swiss Water Process starts by soaking green coffee in pure water to create a Green Coffee Extract (GCE), which holds all of the coffee's soluble compounds. The extract is passed through activated carbon filters to remove the caffeine, leaving a flavorful, caffeine-free solution.

New batches of green coffee then soak in the GCE for 8–10 hours. The caffeine moves out of the beans without stripping away their flavor, and the extract is continuously refreshed through carbon filtration.

The result removes 99.9% of the caffeine while preserving the coffee's original acidity, flavor and complexity.

More than half a million families in Colombia make their living growing coffee on small farms across the country's volcanic mountain ranges.

This coffee comes from the Antioquia region, and we chose it for its deep caramelized flavors: dark chocolate, caramel and toasted almond.

Every decaffeination process takes some toll on green coffee, but in our experience, Swiss Water Process coffees hold their flavor better than other methods.

Why we picked it: A few years ago, we piloted a rotating "decaf of the month" program which brought in several unique decaf coffees. It featured small lots that were available on a limited basis. What we discovered is that many of our customers wanted a daily drinker that they could count on year round, and a lot of them were after this classic Colombian profile.
