High on the northern slopes of Tanzania’s great volcanic mountains, coffee grows in the rich, loamy soils of Kilimanjaro and Arusha—regions where the air is cool, the rainfall is steady, and the land has nourished coffee trees for generations. Here, smallholder farmers handpick ripe red cherries and bring them to their local AMCOS (Agricultural Marketing Cooperative Societies), where the fruit of their work is transformed into some of East Africa’s most distinctive coffees. This peaberry lot showcases the care and collaboration behind Tanzanian coffee. Only a small percentage of cherries naturally produce a single, rounded bean—known as a peaberry—rather than the usual pair. These rare beans are sorted and roasted separately, often prized for their bright, lively cup and concentrated flavor. In the cup, expect a vibrant balance: cranberry brightness, sweet orange zest, and the comforting depth of dark chocolate. It’s a flavor journey that speaks to the highland terroir and the patient craft of Tanzania’s northern coffee communities.

This coffee is sourced from several small farmers that are members of the AMCOS cooperative across the Kilimanjaro and Arusha regions. AMCOS is a farmer-led organization that manages local milling, quality control, and marketing on behalf of its members. After careful hand sorting and washing, cherries are dried on raised beds under the mountain sun, with constant attention to airflow and moisture. Once fully dried and graded, the coffee moves through local exporters for shipment.
