About Us

Coffee Break is a specialty, small-batch coffee roaster that launched in 2023 in the Monte Sano neighborhood of Huntsville, AL.

Initially serving pour overs to friends and family in a neighbor's driveway, we've grown through word-of-mouth, pop-ups, and local events like Greene Street Market, Bailey Cove Farmers Market, and Huntsville Food Hub.

We see quality coffee as a reason to slow down and take notice of the simple pleasures around us, the communities we live in, and the natural wonders that make North Alabama so unique.

Note From The Founder

Hi there! I'm David Lewis, the guy behind Coffee Break 👋

I started roasting coffee not only because I love a good cup (which I do!), but also because I saw how a well-crafted cup of coffee can help person pause for a moment and take notice of the things that make them feel grateful.

We're focused on making excellent coffee, and delivering it with a dose of hospitality.

I hope the next time you slow down to brew, or share, a cup that you'll be inspired to say, "Hey, this place we live is pretty great!" too.

What makes Coffee Break different?

Coffee Break is tailored toward local coffee lovers who appreciate freshness and seek flavor depth beyond mass-market brands. 

Our roasting philosophy is to optimize for sweetness, and highlight the distinctive flavor profile of each coffee based on where it was grown and how it was processed after harvest.

Practically speaking, this means a heavy focus on medium- and light-roast coffees.

We offer a local delivery service every Tuesday, and we're planning to launch interactive coffee classes in the near future where you can come curious and leave caffeinated.

The Roastery

Our 10 year dream is to create landmarks for coffee culture across North Alabama. 

We'd like to establish destination cafes up-and-down the river, tied into the Singing River Trail, where people can come to connect with the community, showcase the culture of our region, and the natural wonders that set North Alabama apart. 

We see top notch coffee, and quality hospitality as a vessel to eventually get there.

Recently, we opened a new coffee roasting facility at The Grid in Hampton Cove. We see this as the perfect launching place for, what we hope to become, a world-class roasting facility.

Quality coffee, space for public education and professional development is a core part of the broader vision. This is where we're starting.

We gravitated toward the future-forward vision of The Grid, and how the owner is working tirelessly to make a community-centered space in a rapidly growing part of town.
