Community Events Barista (Part Time)

Location: Huntsville, AL

Schedule: 10-20 hours/week, to start. Consistent Saturday mornings.

Pay: $17 /hour + mileage reimbursement

About Us

Coffee Break is a specialty coffee roaster located in Huntsville. We’re focused on elevating local coffee craft, providing coffee education, and supporting activities that help people connect with this beautiful place we call home. Whether it’s a weekday ritual or a Saturday morning market run, our goal is to make extraordinary coffee more accessible, more intentional, and more community-driven.

What You’ll Do

You'll represent Coffee Break in the community — staffing our weekly farmers markets, supporting catering events and races, and helping run classes at our roastery. This is a hands-on role focused on showing up consistently, building relationships, and delivering a great experience for every customer you meet.

Event Execution

  • Transport equipment and inventory to/from events (requires reliable vehicle)
  • Set up and break down booth displays, brewing stations, and catering setups
  • Greet customers, prepare coffee & espresso beverages, offer samples, answer questions, and represent the Coffee Break brand with enthusiasm
  • Ring up orders, handle payments, and track daily sales
  • Build positive relationships with customers at markets and events

You'll work closely with the owner, who will handle scheduling, planning, brand oversight, and serve as lead coffee educator in hosted events. Your job is to execute flawlessly, solve problems as they come up, and make sure nothing falls through the cracks.

Who You Are

  • Event or Hospitality Experience: You've worked in events, hospitality, or customer-facing roles where reliability and follow-through mattered.
  • Customer-Focused: You're equally comfortable chatting with a Saturday morning market crowd and managing a corporate catering setup.
  • Reliable & Self-Directed: You show up on time, follow through on what you commit to, and don't need to be micromanaged.
  • Physically Capable: Able to comfortably lift and maneuver equipment up to 70 lbs (what our mobile espresso machine weighs), stand for several hours, and work outdoors.
  • Have Reliable Transportation: Must have a dependable vehicle for transporting equipment to/from events. (This is essential for the role.)
  • Organized: You keep track of inventory, follow checklists, and stay on top of multiple responsibilities without things slipping.
  • Driven by Craft & Community: Coffee experience isn't required, but you should genuinely care about what we're building and who we're building it for.

Compensation & Perks

Part‑Time Hours:

Consistent 10-20 hours/week for markets & pop-ups, with compensation of $17/hour + mileage reimbursement. This position may also be offered occasional opportunities to participate in catering events, at a higher hourly rate.

Additional Perks:

  • One free 12 oz. bag of coffee every two weeks
  • Unlimited brewed coffee & cold brew at events
  • 30% discount on additional coffee and merchandise
  • Informal coffee training, cupping invites, and hands-on experience

Potential to grow with us — As we expand our events program and explore new revenue streams, you'll be first in line to shape what comes next
