  • Story

Our journey into coffee roasting started at a coffee cooperative on Idjwi Island on Lake Kivu. This coffee comes from the far shore of the same lake. In this area, much of the coffee production is done by small family-operated farms who consolidate their harvests in a cooperative structure at local mills. This particular washing station (Gatare wet mill) gathered a lot of high-grown bourbon coffee that we love for its sweetness and malty flavor profile. I hope you'll enjoy it too!

  • Tasting Notes

FLAVOR: Malt syrup, caramel, nutty, herbs

    BODY: Medium Bodied

    ROAST LEVEL: Medium

  • Coffee Background

This coffee comes from the "land of 1000 hills" on the southeast side of Lake Kivu in Rwanda. Small scale farmers sell their coffee as whole cherries to the local Gatare wet milling station, where it is consolidated and processed before being sent off for decaffeination. Before roasting this coffee was decaffeinated using the Swiss Water Process in Vancouver, BC. This chemical-free water method preserves the coffee's natural flavors and aromas. The bourbon cultivar used in this package grows at high altitudes and contributes great sweetness to the cup.
